Want to make a difference to your river?
Volunteering is a great way to find out more about your river and make it a better place for people and wildlife. We are a friendly group that always welcomes new people.
DNAire will enable us to expand our volunteering along the river from Leeds to Skipton. Together we will be able clean up bankside flood debris; remove invasive plants; create new habitats; improve riverside walks and plant trees to reduce erosion and slow the water flow in the upper Aire catchment.
The River Aire offers a huge range of opportunities for volunteering. The Aire Rivers Trust currently runs a volunteering programme in the Bradford city region called River Aire Care. If you are interested in participating, please get in touch with our River Aire Care Project Officer Nick Milsom.
It’s not all about getting your hands dirty work. DNAire will enable us to better understand our river. Do you have a keen interest in nature? DNAire will be taking part in the Anglers’ Riverfly Monitoring Initiative to help us better understand the river’s health and tackle pollution. It’s not just for anglers and our volunteers will be trained to identify key invertebrates at new sampling sites.
If getting up close and personal with wildlife isn’t your thing (and people are) we’d love your help to find out about the history of our great river. Why not help us write walks for others to enjoy to discover the exciting heritage of our river, help with our school visits or help share everything that is great about our river at village shows? Please register your interest and we can keep you up to date on opportunities as we launch in September 2020.
